The cast of Ocean’s 8 are no strangers to a heist. Each of these leading ladies have, after all, been repeatedly robbed of equality throughout their respective careers. Gender-swapping the Oceans franchise marks a superficial step forward when the crew are almost entirely men. The film itself is fine.
Were it not for its winning central performance from Girls star Zosia Mamet, supported by a terrific ensemble, The Boy Downstairs would be forgotten midway through the first act, never mind the credits. Lightweight, to say the least, Sophie Brooks’ directorial debut is painstakingly sweet.
Show Dogs feels like a film airlifted from the noughties and reincarnated for the streaming generation. Of course, it is the work of Beverley Hills Chihuahua director Raja Gosnell. The talking dogs are a big giveaway.
