Brie Larson dazzles in the new trailer for Captain Marvel, which was released overnight.

In any other year, the arrival of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female-fronted superhero blockbuster would be the must-see event of the studio’s decade. As it happens, in 2019, Captain Marvel is just pipped to that honour by the sequel to this year’s Infinity War epic.

That said, all the signs seem to suggest that Larson’s hero will have a significant role to play in that film too and so it’s no wonder that fans are so hotly anticipating her debut.

Opening with the shot of Larson assaulting a geriatric that thrilled us all in the teaser trailer, this longer glimpse at the film offers a more juicy idea of what’s going to happen.

We learn how Carol Danvers came upon her powers – ‘we made you one of us’ – how she met Nick Fury (a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson) and of how she will question her past and look to her future.
