FIRST LOOK: The new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer just swung in

As they embark on a year that promises to be one of the biggest in superhero film history, Marvel have released the first trailer for the third of their 2019 offerings: Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The new trailer comes after Tom Holland promised to ‘speak to Sony’ at the weekend and promised a live-feed on Instagram yesterday.

While any normal franchise would call it a day after producing an epic finale called Endgame – at least, until a few years have passed and the studio call for a spin-off – the Marvel Cinematic Universe is no ordinary franchise. That’s why Avengers: Endgame’s follow up is due for release just two months later.

Whilst Far From Home has been billed as the sequel to 2017’s surprisingly fresh Spider-Man: Homecoming, producer Amy Pascal has teased that it will open mere minutes after Endgame closes. Given, meanwhile, that Tom Holland’s take on the character ‘died’ at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, this one looks set to be complex.

And that’s even before we think about how much the Spider-Verse has changed since 2017.

Plot details are still scarce as to what will actually happen in Far From Home – suggestion is that the film will see Peter Parker go on a summer vacation to Europe, having helped save fifty per cent of the Universe – but the new tease should whet fan appetites.

Tom Holland is a confirmed returnee, as are Zendaya’s MJ, Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May and Michael Keaton’s first-film baddie Vulture.

Jake Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Mystery, in the super villain’s feature film debut, while Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are set to reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

The film once again sees Jon Watts direct a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with music by Michael Giacchino.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is set for release in America on 5 July – with no UK date yet set – following Captain Marvel on 8 March and Avengers: Endgame on 26 April.

  1. Another Spiderman! I’m Tobey Maguire era (Love his other work too) and would like to see the animation. I don’t think I saw the Andrew Garfield ones but have heard that Tom Holland’s played the role well.
