Stone Age history comes with a pinch of salt and a whole lot of plasticine in the new film from Bristol-based animation wizards Aardman. Early Man doesn’t reach the heights of the studio’s previous offerings but boasts an abundance of warmth, humour and extraordinary design.
The New York Times may have broken open the saga of the Pentagon Papers back in 1966 but it is the parallel story of The Washington Post told in the latest film from Steven Spielberg. A smart move. The Post is a fine drama of depth and substance, heightened by an intelligent focus on a tale of equal importance.
There are moments throughout Coco, Pixar’s latest so-called return to form, in which the quality of animation is so extraordinarily well crafted thatone would be forgiven for mistaking the format for stop-motion puppetry, not merely CGI. They’ve doneit again. Somehow, Pixar have raised the bar.
