If American seniors were feeling left out of the British vogue for ‘grey-pound cinema’ about older women entering a new chapter of their life (we’re looking at you, Finding Your Feet), then new comedy: Book Club will be the answer to their prayers.
The first trailer has today landed for Bill Holderman’s directorial debut: Book Club.
Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen star in the film as a quartet of mature women who decide to spice up their lives after reading Fifty Shades of Grey at their book club.
Holderman (A Walk in the Woods) has co-written the script with Erin Simms, who last year produced Netflix’s Our Souls at Night – also featuring Fonda.
Joining the leading ladies are: Richard Dreyfus, Andy Garcia and – hilariously – Don Johnson, father of Dakota (aka Anastasia Steele) Johnson from the Fifty Shades films.
Check out the trailer here:
Book Club hits UK cinemas on 1 June, following a US release on 18 May.
I’d happily hang out with these ladies for a couple of hours. Should be better than Viva Last Vegas.
