In another dimension, there is a phenomenal alternate version of Julius Onah’s The Cloverfield Paradox. It’s a parallel universe in which a paired down iteration of Oren Uziel’s script grants its gift of a cast one concept to run with and they take it into hyperspace. If this is it, if Phantom Thread marks the final act in the celebrated career of Daniel Day-Lewis, then what a way to go out on a high. With a triumphantly compelling performance from Day-Lewis up its sleeve – or rather, beneath its hem – this latest film from Paul Thomas Anderson is a sumptuously intimate experience.
Black Panther is the eighteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a franchise this year celebrating its tenth anniversary. The film – which sees Chadwick Boseman play T’Challa, the titular melanistic big cat – is one of three Marvel blockbusters out in 2018, taking the total to twenty. That’s more films than Quentin Tarantino has produced in his entire career to date.
